Jonesboro, AR - Convocation ceremonies at Arkansas State University in Jonesboro moved outside this May, allowing for increased attendance and safe distancing among thousands of students and guests.

Sitting on close to 1,400 acres, the flagship campus needed a proven system of turf protection before setting the event up on the school’s sports field. The university chose MASTERSHIELD PLUS™, designed for both synthetic and natural fields, to cover the artificial turf and shield it from potential damage caused by high-volume pedestrian traffic.

This spring, 8,000 square feet of portable flooring was put to the test along with transition pieces that attach to the edge of the turf protector, increasing accessibility. The versatility of MASTERSHIELD PLUS™ will also allow the school to hold future events on natural turf locations throughout the campus.

When set up on natural turf, each translucent panel allows sunlight to penetrate and draw up ground moisture, creating a greenhouse effect. Specially designed air holes help to keep the turf healthy while preventing spilled liquids from reaching the surface below. Rounded support walls on the bottom of each panel leave little trace after the temporary walkways are removed.

The portable event flooring system is cost-effective and simple to install by simply overlapping each panel and stepping down until it locks into position. After non-athletic events, its “Diamond Plate” slip-resistant surface is easily cleaned using a pressure washer and the lightweight, compact design makes for quick removal and storage.
