San Diego, CA - When the San Diego Chargers moved to Los Angeles in 2017, San Diego Stadium was demolished. A new stadium was conceived and constructed on the campus of San Diego University. Opened in August 2022, the new, 35-thousand-seat Snapdragon Stadium became the home of the San Diego State University Aztecs football team as well as the home stadium for the San Diego Wave of the NWSL, and the San Diego Legion of Major League Rugby. In 2025, it will also become home to San Diego FC, the newest expansion team in Major Leage Soccer.

With the stadium playing host to a number of different sports including football, soccer, lacrosse, and rugby; as well as a handful of concerts and events like Supercross motorcycle racing and Monster Jam monster truck rallies, it keeps the grounds crew hopping from one re-set to the next. To help maintain optimum turf conditions, Director of Turf and Grounds, Mike Kerns, makes full use of the latest in technological advances of turf growth and protection including turf pods that monitor what the turf is doing and determine drier or warmer areas.

Kerns also wanted to increase turf growth between sports and event re-sets. He replaced the turf covers in current use and ordered COVERMASTER® full field EVERGREEN® Radiant Turf Covers. By using these technologically advanced turf blankets, Kearns and his crew were able to radiate additional heat back to the soil and create a greenhouse effect that results in faster turf growth. With EVERGREEN® Radiant Turf Covers and its specialized silver coating, this COVERMASTER® new fabric technology provides Snapdragon Stadium with the longest lasting and most specialized turf blanket on the market today!
