MetLife Stadium Creates World Class Turf Field for FIFA World Cup Final

East Rutherford, NJ - EVERGREEN® RADIANT Turf Covers ensure optimum new hybrid grass growth.

This past June and July, the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup featured 32 club teams from around the world and was held in stadiums throughout the United States. The final was held at MetLife Stadium in East Rutheford Stadium. Like all host stadiums, the grass playing surface had to meet FIFA requirements. At MetLife Stadium, that not only meant removing its current turf but also meant making stadium adjustments to create the larger width, FIFA playing field.

COVERMASTER® was contacted to provide EVERGREEN® RADIANT Turf Covers in four sections to cover the new soccer pitch. Before those turf growth covers arrived for the new hybrid surface, a sod field was installed and thin artificial turf fibers were mechanically stitched in place. Once ready, 85 thousand square feet of EVERGREEN® RADIANT was installed on top of the playing field.

EVERGREEN® RADIANT turf growth covers have a specialized silver coating that radiates additional heat back into the grass turf and provides up to a 25% increase in heat retention. Based on years of using COVERMASTER® growth covers, the groundskeeper knew that the greenhouse effect of EVERGREEN® RADIANT would result in a FIFA compliant turf field. In fact, those same COVERMASTER® turf growth covers will be used again for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
