Buffalo Bills New Stadium Uses Grow Lights With Turf Grow Blankets
Orchard Park, NY - The greenhouse effect of EVERGREEN® SPECTRUM Turf Covers helps accelerate turf growth.
The Buffalo Bills new Highmark Stadium will open this summer across from their current stadium. It’s a 62,000-seat open air-stadium with a large steel canopy that will shelter 65% of the seats from snow, rain, and wind. The natural Kentucky blue grass was grown at Tuckahoe Turf Farms in New Jersey, one of the top natural-grass suppliers in American sports and was installed in October 2025.
The soil and natural turf are maintained at 60 F degrees by a heating and irrigation system designed to defend against inclement Buffalo weather. In addition to preventing freezing conditions on the field, snow is melted before it can accumulate. That’s not only good for game time but is ideal for turf growth during the winter months. Grow lights are used in conjunction with four 95 by 192-foot rolls of EVERGREEN® SPECTRUM Turf Covers from COVERMASTER®.
Featuring a patented COVERMASTER® orange lace coating, EVERGREEN® SPECTRUM Turf Covers refract both grow light and sunlight into the turf below. This greenhouse effect works in concert with Highmark Stadium’s heated field to accelerate turf growth. For easy installation and removal, four 95-foot COVERMASTER® TARPMATE AIR™ Rollers allow two grounds crew to easily roll and unroll these premium turf blankets.
