Riverside, MO - When construction is completed in 2024, the curtain will rise on the first women’s soccer-specific stadium in the U.S. and the new home of the Kansas City Current, just entering their second season of play after being founded in December 2020.

But there’s more exciting news for the National Women’s Soccer League team. Their new $15-million training facility in Riverside, Missouri is expected to open this year, complete with two grass pitches, a world-class locker room, and top-rated exercise facilities. The new pitches will be ready for the team thanks in part to 194,000 square feet of EVERGREEN® Radiant, the specialized turf cover designed to protect the turf and encourage growth, from COVERMASTER®.

Midwest Laser Leveling, experts in athletic field construction, reached out to COVERMASTER® to source the winter turf covers. One of their team members had worked for the University of Kansas in field management and knew that EVERGREEN® Radiant turf growth covers were a proven product for a successful turf program.

The winter turf blanket’s specialized silver coating is designed to radiate additional heat back into the soil, providing up to 25-percent more heat retention for a longer growing season and earlier spring greenups. Grounds crew can quickly respond to changing weather conditions by easily laying down and removing EVERGREEN® turf blankets as needed. Winter turf blankets can help re-establish damaged turf and protect it from seed dispersal, fertilizer run-off, and other hazardous conditions.
