Grambling, LA - It took a few fast moves by Covermaster® to cover the basketball arena floor at Grambling State University in Grambling, Louisiana. Though the school began sourcing gym carpet a couple of years ago, the pandemic slowed down the process until late last year when the school suddenly needed a quick delivery of gym carpet tiles for their fall commencement.

Founded in 1901, Grambling State is one of over 100 historically Black colleges and universities (HBCUs) in the U.S. and has an esteemed list of graduates that includes Martin Luther King Jr. and U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris. Today, the school is part of the Grambling State University Historic District with buildings dating from 1939 to 1960. In 2010, it was added to the National Register of Historic Places.

The school has grown and prospered over the years, and among its many upgrades was the order for 475 CoverTile™ gym floor carpet tiles in dark charcoal and eight storage carts. Once the order arrived in Louisiana, they quickly realized that the large space needed another 340 tiles of gym floor carpet, along with an additional five carts. Fortunately, there were enough of the prefabricated carpet tiles available to fill the rush order and have them sent out in time for the commencement ceremonies and other future special events hosted by the university.
