WINTER PROTECTION OF PLAYING FIELD NO PROBLEM IN PITTSBURGH

Pittsburgh, PA - As a world leader in sports surface protection, COVERMASTER® has been providing Major League Baseball’s (MLB) Pittsburgh Pirates with various products over several decades. So, when it was time to replace their turf covers at PNC Park, the Pirates contacted COVERMASTER® for the best solution to protecting their baseball turf over the winter and providing earlier growth in the spring.

Located on the banks of the Allegheny River in Pittsburgh's, North Side neighborhood, winter weather can be harsh. Turf protection from wind damage, erosion, frost, and winter kill is essential with these conditions. Originally designed for winter protection, EVERGREEN® Premium Turf Covers from COVERMASTER® have a specially formulated coating that can increase ground temperature in excess of 10°F (5.5°C).

Like other MLB stadiums, PNC Park’s playing field has slightly different configurations. EVERGREEN® Premium Turf Covers from COVERMASTER® can be custom cut to provide different sections and sizes to protect the entire field over the winter. 120,400 square feet of EVERGREEN® Premium Turf Covers were delivered and installed in November. The Pittsburgh Pirates playing field was protected over the winter and EVERGREEN® Premium’s greenhouse effect resulted in earlier spring green-ups.
