Washburn University Replaces 40-Year-Old COVERMASTER® Gym Floor Protection
Topeka, KS - COVERMASTER® gym floor covering for events stands the test of time.
When Washburn University (WU) in Topeka, Kansas opened Lee Arena in 1984, they called on COVERMASTER® to provide gym floor covering for their grade one, inch thick, northern hardwood floor playing surface. Over the years, those gym floor covers protected the gym floor at Lee Arena from non-athletic events and ensured the Division II basketball and volleyball teams played on an elite playing surface.
In 2025, an $8 million dollar renovation of Lee Arena was completed for WU’s 2025-2026 basketball and volleyball season. The original gym floor covering had more than stood the test of time and once again, COVERMASTER® was contacted to provide gym floor covering for events. MASTER 3200™ was selected for its 32-ounce, heavy duty, vinyl construction, durable 3-ply design, and proven protection for hardwood gym floor surfaces during non-athletic use.
Nearly 20 thousand square feet of MASTER 3200™ was purchased by WU in 10-foot-wide sections with varying lengths from 110 to 140 feet. WU also ordered two MASTER SERIES PREMIUM COVERMATE™ mobile storage rack systems and a POWERMATE™ portable power winder for faster and easier gym floor covering removal. Now, just like the original gym floor covering for events from COVERMASTER, MASTER 3200™ will also stand the test of time.
