TURNING UP THE HEAT ON THE FIELDS OF THE JACKSONVILLE JAGUARS

Jacksonville, FL - Jacksonville, Florida is the home of the National Football League (NFL) Jaguars. When turf covers were needed for Jacksonville’s EverBank Stadium as well as the Jaguars’ practice facility, COVERMASTER® was called in for two very specific issues. Both centered around the Bermuda grass turf. While especially suited for the heat of Florida’s sunny weather, the very fine grass is known for its aggressive growth with one caveat: soil temperature must be above 65 F (18 C).

At the 67,814-seat EverBank Stadium, there are shaded areas in the autumn, which in turn means that the turf in those areas are cooler than the rest of the football field. As a result, turf growth would vary between the full sun and the shaded areas, creating an overall turf issue. By using EVERGREEN® Spectrum Turf Covers from COVERMASTER®, the grounds crew could cover the shaded areas of turf between games and encourage optimal growth. EVERGREEN® Spectrum’s patented orange coating refracts sunlight into an ideal UV light spectrum, that increases temperature and accelerates growth.

The practice fields are in wide open areas, that are more conducive to the variable weather conditions and yes, temperature shifts. EVERGREEN® Radiant Turf Covers were selected from COVERMASTER® for their ability to increase heat retention of the Bermuda grass turf by up to 25% compared to EVERGREEN® Original. By rotating the turf covers from one practice field to the other, the specialized silver coating of the EVERGREEN® Radiant Turf Covers radiated additional heat from the sun into the turf’s soil. You might say that in both the stadium and on the practice fields, the grounds crew in Jacksonville turned up the heat on the turf thanks to COVERMASTER®.
