The University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign (UIUC) is located in Champaign, Illinois which is about two hours south of Chicago and the same to the east of Indianapolis. With over 59 thousand students, it is one of the largest universities by enrolment in the U.S. and has 651 buildings on 6,370 acres – one of which is Memorial Stadium. Primarily used for the university’s Fighting Illini football team, the stadium also hosts other events including their annual Illinois Sights and Sounds welcome event and campus-wide commencement ceremony.

As part of the stadium’s 100th Anniversary season, UIUC wanted to close specific sections of the stadium to concentrate spectators into preferred seating. Cookie cutter solutions would not work due to the different sizes of sections. COVERMASTER® was contacted for the ability to provide any size of stadium seat covers required. PERFKNIT was selected for its unique ability to allow vertical stretch for tensioning but no stretch horizontally.

Each of the 16 sections were custom-cut by COVERMASTER® to UIUC specifications as well as printed with the university’s brand visual identity. In addition, eight of the sections feature the UICU logo while the other eight display a UICU wordmark. UIUC now has the flexibility to concentrate spectators inside Memorial Stadium, promote their brand in a professional way, and reduce maintenance, security, and cleaning costs.
