Spokane, WA - Though they had already invested in a gym floor cover for the innovative hydraulically banked running track at The Podium in Spokane, Washington, the Spokane Public Facilities District wanted an additional layer of protection.
The 135,000-square-foot multi-use sports facility just opened last fall, offering 75,000 square feet of dedicated competition space that includes the indoor six-lane track. Protecting that surface was a priority and COVERMASTER® suggested Terraplas-HD, a high-density portable event flooring that is strong enough to stand up to significant weight, including heavy vehicles.
The new temporary stadium flooring would be layered between the gym floor cover sitting on the track and the Snap Sports court system for basketball and other sporting events, as well as the main floor surface for non-athletic events, turning the space into a multi-use facility. Terraplas-HD uses panels that lock together to form a monolithic floor that can be easily installed and removed by the stadium’s team between special events.
COVERMASTER® worked with Terraplas North America to complete the project, which will allow the facility to host graduation ceremonies, concerts, and dinner events. From mid-June to early November, nine basketball courts will be set up over the Terraplas-HD turf protection flooring. In November, the portable floor will be removed and the facility will be converted back to a full-time indoor track stadium, proving the versatility of the space and the benefits of temporary event flooring.
