COVERMASTER® PADS PHASE 2 OF THE ROGERS CENTRE RENO
Toronto, Ontario - In 1989, an exciting new stadium known as the SkyDome (the Rogers Centre as of 2005) was completed next to the CN Tower in Toronto, ON. COVERMASTER® custom made all of the padding for both the baseball and football configurations. Years later in 2023, phase one of the Rogers Centre renovations created a new “Outfield District” that included a new asymmetrical outfield wall, four new “Outfield Neighbourhoods” social spaces, and raised bull pens for eye-level fan viewing. The company responsible for making it all a reality, PCL Contractors, brought in COVERMASTER® for all stadium padding requirements – all custom and a major undertaking from start to finish.
This year, phase two of Rogers Centre’s renovations were completed for the start of the 2024 season and included a complete makeover of the 100-Level seating bowl. From more comfortable seating that’s angled for better sightlines, to a reduction in foul territory to bring fans closer to the action, phase two will provide fans with a more authentic baseball experience. It also meant new padding requirements for the entire lower bowl. Once again, COVERMASTER® was brought in to custom-create and install an incredible array of padding in just about every size and shape imaginable.
From padding the foul area walls to the backstop area, the dugout railings, and many other areas of the lower bowl, COVERMASTER® mirrored the padding of phase one which included the custom blue of the Toronto Blue Jays. Working from drawings and architectural specs, onsite inspections were also conducted to ensure the fit of every piece of custom padding. COVERMASTER® was also responsible for custom padding in the pitching lab and the visitor’s batting tunnel under the stands as well as walk/draw curtains in those areas.
