COOL CALIFORNIA NIGHTS NO MATCH FOR EVERGREEN® RADIANT TURF BLANKETS

Los Angeles, CA - Bermuda grass turf at LMU’s Sullivan Stadium protected from low temperature dormancy.

Located in the Del Ray Hills and Westchester area of Los Angeles, California, Loyola Marymount University (LMU) is a private Jesuit and Marymount research university that offers 55 major and 58 minor undergraduate programs, 47 master's degree programs, and more. Its Lions men’s and women’s soccer teams have achieved much success over the years at LMU’s Sullivan Field.

Part of that success is providing exceptional field conditions that are ideal for soccer play. Back in 2015, LMU tried the use of two EVERGREEN® RADIANT Turf Covers from COVERMASTER® for their goal mouths. The next year, they purchased a 95 by 150-foot EVERGREEN® RADIANT Turf Cover for high traffic areas in the middle of the soccer pitch. LMU was sold on EVERGREEN® RADIANT’s proven ability to provide faster turf growth and green ups.

The Bermuda grass turf at Sullivan Field is a warm weather grass that thrives in Los Angeles daytime temperatures of 75F to 90F. However, fall and winter night temperatures of 65F and lower cause turf dormancy issues. To solve this, LMU added a 100 by 150-foot EVERGREEN® RADIANT Turf Cover last year followed by eight 10 by 20-foot versions this year. Its ability to radiate heat into the soil and provide up to a 25% increase in heat retention ensures that the temperature under the turf blanket is above nighttime temperatures. Go Lions!
