360 Degrees of Protection

This summer the U2 360° tour showcased the worlds largest, most innovated and most complicated stage setup.  Based on the concept of creating an unobstructed view for large football/soccer stadiums, U2's production manager Willie Williams and architect Mark Fisher teamed up to design a stage situated in the center of the stadium.  The result was a giant, spaceship-like structure nicknamed "The Claw".

This unique setup drew the attention of thousands of fans but posed a serious challenge for venues across the world.  How do you put the world's largest stage setup in the center of a stadium without damaging the sensative natural grass playing field below?  At Wembley Stadium in North London, a combination of Terratrak and Terraflor ensured "The Claw" kept its hands off the sensitive turf below.

Robert Else and the Terraplas team ensured the right flooring combination was used to keep the 164 foot stage from damaging the turf.  Each leg of the structure contained its own sound system and
excreted a weight of 18.3 tons per m².  For the stage, and legs of the structure, Terratak was used because of its high weight load capabilities.  Terraflor supported the weight of the fans and sound booths.   By combining high weight-load Terratrak with the translucent properties of Terraflor, Terrplas successfully provided maximum protection for the pitch at Wembley Stadium for one amazing concert experience.

After the success at Wembley, Terraplas products will be used as the tour completes its sweep of the U.S in the months of September and October.
