New Era for On Field Advertising

Can you see the value of advertising On Deck?

Flushing Meadows, NY   Spotless concessions, bright new equipment and a pristine playing surface are just some of the reasons to get excited about the New York Mets inaugural season at Citi Field.   But while the fans were dreaming of peanuts and crackerjacks early this spring, Covermaster was working to find ways to keep this New York ballpark's field in great condition for years to come.

We have worked with the Mets in the past, and were delighted to hear they were considering Covermaster again in their transition from Shea Stadium to Citi Field.  Custom bullpen tarps, Raincover Plus,  infield batting practice turf protection, Enkamat walkways and on deck circles were all in order to ensure this new field would stay in great condition.  Each Stadium we work on has its own unique needs and Citi field was no exception.  Specifically, two products were custom made for the Mets; our batting practice turf protector and on deck circles.

Custom OnDeck circles with advertising were designed for Citi Field. Covermaster has been making custom On Deck circles for years but the Mets were the first MLB team to approach us with a design that incorporated an advertiser.  This might not seem like a big deal, but given the fact that this is the first on-field advertisement in the MLB and the amount of media exposure an on deck circle gets, we think the Mets did a great job!    Work on the Mets On deck circle signals the second time Covermaster has been part of new developments in stadium advertising after some great work with seat covers at Qwest Field in Seattle.

Our second notable custom work at Citi field was their batting practice field turf protection.  Bill Deacon, Manager of Field Operations at Citi Field requested that longer “wings” were necessary to protect the infield during intense batting practice sessions.  Protecting the field from the constant barrage of infield balls and on-deck hitters is essential in any professional ballpark and we gladly custom fit the field for extra protection.

Cracking bats and roaring crowds is music to any baseball fans ears.  And while we love the finer points of baseball too, what really gets us excited is hearing stories of stadiums increasing their advertising options while protecting their playing field.  After all, any die-hard baseball fan will tell you that statistics are just as important as style in any Major League Season.
