Winnipeg, Manitoba - Though it may feel like winter is determined to hang on, organizers for the 2017 Canada Summer Games already have their sights set on warmer months. Scheduled for July 28 to Aug. 13 in Winnipeg, Manitoba, this year’s much-anticipated event will also mark the 50th anniversary of the Canada Games.
The multi-venue games will be held in various locations in and outside of Winnipeg; among the host sites is the Axworthy Health & RecPlex on the University of Winnipeg campus. Basketball games will be played at the new multi-use facility during week one and then the facility will be converted for wrestling competitions in week two. That will mean installing a temporary hardwood basketball floor over the synthetic turf soccer field, followed by competition and warm-up mats for wrestling.
Artificial Turf protection would be the best way to prevent damage to the facility’s synthetic turf soccer field. Games organizers decided to go with MasterShield Vinyl, a heavy duty artificial turf cover that can stand up to rigorous events and gatherings. Close to 60,000 square feet of the reinforced vinyl was installed in late February in advance of a weekend wrestling event at the university. The trial run was a success, and proved how easily the 10 large sections of vinyl tarp could be rolled out, removed and later stored on their TarpMate rollers.
MasterShield Vinyl is easy to clean, waterproof, fire retardant, and rot and mildew resistant. Turf protection mats can help to convert any artificial turf sports field into a multi-purpose venue.
