Moncton, NB, Canada
- Covermaster Inc. made sure that the running track of the new STADE MONCTON 2010 was well protected during the hosting of the Olympic torch relay that passed through the city on November 23, 2009.
The stadium, which was built on the University of Moncton campus, features an eight lane running track with the same surface as was installed at the Beijing Olympics. Among the many events that will surely fill the stadium's calendar in the years to come, the facility will host the 2010 World Junior Track and Field championships on July 19 to 25, 2010. To preserve the running track during special, non-athletic events, the City of Moncton, which co-manages the stadium with the University, ordered 34,450sf of the new Terracover V protective cover.
Since the Olympic Torch relay would happen before delivery of the Terracover V, Covermaster came to the rescue by providing enough Terratrak cover to protect the running track temporarily.
On the day of the event, about 12,000 citizens of Moncton and nearby towns got a preview of the new stadium as the city hosted a special celebration of the Torch Relay as it made its way to Vancouver on a 106-day journey across Canada.
Throughout the day of the event Terratrak protected the running track from the affects of the many support vehicles and sponsor caravans. In fact, the use of Terratrak allowed the parking of the vehicles right next to the playing field.
The event organizers commented that the event set-up was the best they ever experienced for both attendees and sponsors. Needless to say, Terraplas and Covermaster were equally pleased to see the cover perform so well.
