Roanoke, VA - When a venue doesn’t conform to standard dimensions, custom fitting is often the best way to ensure the ultimate in sports surface protection. That was the case for the Berglund Center in Roanoke, Virginia, a 10,500-seat multi-purpose facility that plays host to the Roanoke Rail Yard Dawgs SPHL hockey team.
At 85 by 190 feet, the Berglund Center’s rink is about 10 feet shorter than standard-sized ice surfaces. By choosing Terracover Ice® conversion cover to replace an aging ice rink cover, not only was the City of Roanoke opting for a premium ice rink flooring product, but they could rest easy knowing that the interlocking non-slip floor would be worry free. The Covermaster team arrived at the ice arena in late April to custom fit the ice rink conversion cover, which is strong enough to withstand the weight of a fully-loaded forklift.
The lightweight panels are easily installed in approximately an hour with a team of eight to 10 people and can be conveniently packed away on storage carts when not in use. Simple to remove and clean, Terracover Ice also has the industry’s leading R-value for the best insulation of any ice rink conversion. Since there aren’t any gaps between the tiles, there’s no way to let cold seep through or warmth from the surface to melt the ice.
With their new ice arena covers on site, Berglund Center is ready to host any number of non-athletic events whether it’s a graduation, concert, or trade show.
