Pittsburgh, PA - Since the mid-1990s, back to the days when the NFL’s Pittsburgh Steelers played at Three Rivers Stadium, operations staff have relied on Covermaster products to help maintain the team’s sports fields. High on the must-have list are Raincover Plus football field tarps, known for its Shield-Tek technology, that’s designed to keep turf cooler and drier.
Two new football field covers were ordered recently for the main stadium at Heinz Field and the team’s practice facility at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center Sportsplex. The lightweight, heavy-duty field tarps are flex crack and abrasion-resistant, UV stabilized, and provide 100-percent sunblock. Though stadium field covers typically come with a Velcro closure, the Steelers’ grounds crew opted for a zipper system that has worked well for the franchise for years.
The 100,000-square-foot practice facility is shared with the university’s football team, the Pittsburgh Panthers, making it the only facility in the U.S. to house both a collegiate NCAA and professional NFL team. The center is a hub for training, coaching, and team management in its state-of-the-art environment, along with access to the UPMC Center for Sports Medicine.
Raincover Plus athletic field covers are available in several colors and custom sizes. Facilities can save time and labor costs when they also invest in a TarpMate Air Roller, a new system that has revolutionized the installation, removal, and storage of football tarps and other types of sports field covers.
