Quinte West, Ontario - Each spring, the ice at the Duncan McDonald Memorial Community Gardens in the City of Quinte West, ON would have to be removed in preparation for the annual Bay of Quinte Home Show — a much-anticipated event drawing hundreds of vendors and visitors to the area annually. But this year, things went a little differently.
About a week before the show, a Covermaster team arrived to install a shipment of the new IceMate, an ice rink flooring system that turns arenas into multi-purpose venues. The timing was tight. After hockey playoffs wrapped up on Sunday night, the arena flooring was moved on to the ice to adjust to the arena temperatures overnight. On Monday, the ice rink covers were custom-fitted and installed in preparation for the home show set-up beginning the next day.
The ice rink conversion cover was put to a full test after the weekend home show. The following Monday, the temporary flooring was lifted and the existing ice surface readied for the Dudley Hewitt Cup Junior A hockey championship, kicking off on Tuesday. In the span of a week, the new ice arena covers were installed, put through their first trial and removed — all to the tune of positive reviews.
Not only did the IceMate arena conversion covering allow the community centre to host multiple events back to back, but it saved on the extensive time and costs associated with ice removal and reinstallation. The one-inch solid composite sheets are quickly and easily installed and removed, with the use of Covermaster’s IceMate Storage Carts, which ensure safe and simple handling and storage.
