New Glasgow, Nova Scotia - New ice rink conversion covers shipped to the Pictou County Wellness Centre in New Glasgow, Nova Scotia will make it easier to host special events at the state-of-the-art complex.
Opened in late 2012, the venue is one of the most energy-efficient complexes of its kind in Canada. Additionally, it plays a key role in the community by offering ice surfaces, a walking track, and community conference space, and it serves as home to the YMCA of Pictou County.
An order of ¾-inch thick IceMate ice rink flooring in 4x8-foot panels was custom-fitted to one of the facility’s two NHL-sized rinks in early March. Made from a non-porous reinforced fiberglass composite, ice rink conversion covers allow facilities to host non-athletic events without removing the ice. Installation, removal, and storage is simple thanks to the beveled edges on the bottom of the panels. Nine CoverMate™ IceCart-IM storage carts completed the order.
The ice rink cover’s solid bottom surface gives it enough strength to hold up to heavy equipment use, increasing the facility’s versatility. Trade shows, consumer events, and concerts requiring special stage and sound equipment are just a few of the options available to arenas that invest in ice rink floor systems.
