Kelowna, British Columbia - New baseball field tarps are helping to keep a Kelowna, B.C. baseball diamond in major league condition for their local team.
This year, the parks and recreation department ordered infield turf protection to guard the grass during the Kelowna Falcons’ batting practice. Repeated impact from balls can create divots in the turf but a durable, lightweight infield cover like the BP Zone Infield Turf Protector can minimize damage and subsequent repairs. Made from a PVC-polyester industrial mesh fabric, the baseball infield covers stand up to intensive abuse while allowing sun, air, and moisture to reach the turf below.
The department also invested in a Pro Mesh Batting Cage Collar, a two-piece protector that covers the turf around the batting practice cage and reduces wear and tear from cleats as players warm up and wait for their turn at bat.
“We’ve noticed a trend in Canada where the job of the turf manager is expanding and they’re now using these turf protection products more prevalently than they would before,” said Covermaster regional representative Thomas Bell. “Semi pro teams are treating their fields like the major leagues do.”
Last year, the City of Kelowna dressed up the diamond with forest green backstop padding designed to absorb ball impact and increase player safety.
