Ann Arbor, MI - A new $170-million complex on the University of Michigan campus is nearing completion, and at 280,000 square feet in size, it’s sure to make its mark in the sports world.
The Stephen M. Ross Athletic Campus Athletics South Competition and Performance Project will eventually host home, regional, and national competitions, and will also be used by students participating in recreational sports. Among its outstanding features: indoor and outdoor tracks with plenty of room for spectators, an outdoor lacrosse stadium, an indoor rowing facility, and a new gymnasium with 71,000 square feet of athletic wood flooring.
In October, Covermaster delivered 82,000 square feet of Ultima 5000 gym floor covering to protect the new hardwood gym floor. The space needed a top-of-the-line gym floor protection product for non-sporting events, and the fact that it could be customized to their specifications was an added bonus.
The dual-sided gym floor tarp — one side in grey and the other in a custom shade of blue — arrived at the facility as a complete gym floor covering system with nine Ultima Series CoverMate II racks, custom storage covers, power winders, and additional accessories.
The University of Michigan is a long-time Covermaster customer, investing in gym floor covers, field tarps, and other Covermaster sports surface covers to protect their indoor and outdoor athletic surfaces. They’re no stranger to Ultima 5000 and already use maize and blue gym floor tarps in the Crisler Center, home to the university’s men’s and women’s basketball teams.
