Newmarket, Ontario - When it came time to retire a homemade plywood ice rink cover, the Town of Newmarket turned to Covermaster for a solution. The answer was simple: IceMate ice rink flooring system.
Home to the OJHL Newmarket Hurricanes and the Newmarket Saints Junior B lacrosse club, the Ray Twinney Recreation Complex also hosts special events inside the 3,700-seat multi-purpose arena. Protecting the ice with the heavy wooden cover was a cumbersome process and they were eager to try something new for this spring’s upcoming home show. Their order included 532 sheets of IceMate arena flooring, along with 11 custom metal stackable storage carts.
They soon discovered how quickly and easily the ice rink covers would turn their arena into a multi-purpose venue. IceMate is made of a non-porous fiberglass composite that features a non-slip surface and an R factor of 2.9, helping to preserve the ice while maintaining a warm surface for pedestrians. Each sheet has eight finger lifts for easy handling, and a crew of less than 10 can install or take up the ice arena cover in an hour.
The new ice arena flooring will make it easier to book events at the city’s recreation facility, and the ice rink floor system can be shared with their other venues that need a similar product. By ordering custom corners and edges for other rinks and transporting the main sheets to various locations as needed, it’s a budget-friendly way to convert multiple arenas. Supervision of the initial install is all part of Covermaster’s service Package with first time buyers.
