Notre Dame, IN - The University of Notre Dame in Indiana is not only one of the world’s most esteemed schools, but its athletics teams — best known as the Fighting Irish — are legendary. Whether its football, basketball, soccer, or fencing, the varsity athletics program has a loyal following and strong alumni support.
Men’s and women’s varsity fencing are among the sports teams that play in the north dome of the Joyce Center, a multi-purpose arena seating close to 10,000. Last summer, the facility underwent an extensive renovation that included replacing the main floor in the circular building. Six new basketball courts were installed — three hardwood and the other three synthetic — and protecting the new surfaces meant ordering enough gym floor covering for close to 85,000 square feet of space.
The university opted for Master 3200 gym floor covers for the entire surface and close to 30,000 square feet of grey Platinum Easyroll Gym Carpet specifically for the three hardwood courts. The order included 17 mobile storage racks for the two types of gym floor protection, and enough gym carpet to allow for a custom-cut fit around the circumference of the dome.
Both products are highly effective in transforming gymnasiums into multi-purpose venues. The Master 3200 is a heavy-duty gym floor cover designed for repeated use and almost any type of event. Easyroll gym floor Carpet cushions the floor from damage and also acts as an acoustical barrier in large, open areas.
The gymnasium floor covers were installed in early January and put to the test about a week later. By opting for two gym floor tarps in different sizes, organizers can choose to cover all or part of the floor space customized to the event’s size.
