Cuba, IL - A scenic golf course in Cuba, Illinois, named for its “blue skies and many waters,” that was left to deteriorate in 2018 has been revived by a dedicated group from the local community.
The Wee-Ma-Tuk Hills Country Club saw its overgrown, neglected fairways brought back to life after the course was purchased with funding from 135 dedicated families and individuals. Not only did they finance the deal that closed in June, but more than 40 volunteers came out each day to help restore the grounds and clubhouse, revealing the six sparkling lakes surrounding the course.
Today, the club’s leadership is preparing the course for winter with the purchase of golf course green covers from Covermaster® to protect the improved greens from harsh weather. Evergreen® Original turf covers in both custom and standard sizes will help to shield the newly rehabilitated greens from sudden drops in temperature, frost, and snow later this year. About 103,000 square feet of turf growth blankets will create a greenhouse effect, encouraging earlier spring green-ups and a longer playing season for 2021 and into the future.
The 18 winter turf covers are made from a translucent polyethylene material that’s both permeable and protective, allowing sun, air, and moisture to reach the turf. Easy to install — just stake and walk away — Evergreen® growth blankets are rot and mildew resistant, and UV treated for outstanding longevity. With almost 40 years in turf covers, Covermaster® offers the longest warranty in the industry.
