Pittsburgh, PA - April 3rd was opening day for the Pittsburgh Pirates, and that meant grounds crew were hustling to get the natural turf field in shape for the much-anticipated event.
Though weather can throw a wrench into the plans, PNC Park on Pittsburgh’s North Shore was ready, thanks in part to a new order of Evergreen turf blankets. More than 130,000 square feet of Evergreen Premium Model Turf Covers were delivered to the stadium last November, designed to protect the grass through the winter months and encourage earlier greenup once spring weather arrived.
Not only do turf covers draw in more heat and increase ground temperatures, but they also protect against wind damage, erosion, frost and winter kill. Later in the year, delayed fall dormancy helps to extend the playing season and promotes thicker turf with better colour. A quality turf blanket can save on maintenance costs and is the ideal addition to any turf management program. Evergreen is the chosen Turf Blanket of choice at major and minor league levels of play.
