Orange, CA, USA - Over the course of nine months, Covermaster and the Baseball Tomorrow Fund, along other organizations and dedicated volunteers, have helped transform the dilapidated field at Orange High School into the crowned jewel of the Orange County Baseball League. The 59 year old field had been slowly fading for years and had large potholes in the infield, depressions in the outfield and an irrigation system that couldn’t handle the effects of heavy rainfall. Baseball played on the field was beginning to be hazardous and required a complete rebuild for proper playing conditions. Under these debilitating circumstances, it was an obvious choice for selection at last year’s MLB Groundskeepers’ industry day and the focus of their annual renovation service project for 2011.
With initial funding provided by a $40,000 grant from the Baseball Tomorrow Fund, the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim's head groundskeeper Barney Lopas helped stretch this into a $150,000 field makeover for the school, including equipment and supplies. Tremendous care and volunteerism spearheaded by Barney and his crew of groundskeepers helped with the renovations through many hours of volunteer work. The large improvements to the facility included the installation of an automatic irrigation system, infield and outfield renovations, backstop repair, and batting cage upgrades.
The 59-year-old diamond was going to require a lot more funding and support to take it to the next level, so companies including Covermaster, Toro, Turface Athletics and local vendors donated whatever they could to the cause. Covermaster contributed baseball windscreens for the fences, spot covers for the infield, home plate, mound and bullpen covers and custom on deck circles with Orange High School Panthers proudly displayed. The Covermaster baseball field protection covers will help Orange High School maintain their optimal field conditions for many years to come. We are pleased with the way this project has come along and support not only the Orange High School teams, but all local players that will benefit from a quality field. Covermaster is proud of its support for field renovations like this and the growth of youth participation in baseball.
