White Sulphur Springs, WV - World TeamTennis (WTT) is among the first sports league in North America to welcome fans safely back to the stands in the midst of COVID-19.
The mixed-gender professional tennis league decided to compress their season into one three-week tournament that began July 12, at The Greenbrier resort in White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia. Nine teams faced off in front of temperature-checked, mask-wearing fans, all physically distanced in staggered seating covered with stadium seat fillers from Covermaster.
Organizers of WTT decided to allow a maximum of 500 spectators into the 2,500-seat outdoor court and approached Covermaster in mid-June looking for a physical distancing solution that would keep fans safely separated during the matches. In just a short time, measurements were taken, test covers were sent to the venue, and adjustments were made, followed closely by the delivery of 38 sections of custom bleacher seat covers.
Designed to cover alternating rows, each stadium seat filler was branded with the logo of California-based sponsor “Chosen Foods”. The printed polystretch fabric covers were custom finished to fit easily over the rows and can be stored without wrinkling. Not only was WTT thrilled with the final product, but the highly visible logo gives a marketing boost to Chosen Foods after recently changing their brand design.
Allowing fans back into the stands is one sign of a much-anticipated return to normalcy, providing athletes with the energy and encouragement integral to live sports. Even those choosing to watch games from their own homes can feed off spectator excitement. Innovative options, like custom seat covers, will make it easier for sports venues to welcome fans to a safe environment.
