Parachute, CO - Faced with high turnout, it made sense for Grand Valley High School in Parachute, Colorado to get creative and turn this year’s spring graduation ceremony into an outdoor occasion. For schools with limited facilities, accommodating large groups during special events can pose a significant challenge.
Part of the Garfield County School District 16, Grand Valley school is home to a newer synthetic turf field where students compete in a range of sports, from football to track and field. But there was also a plan to host graduation in the same space, and that meant investing in turf protection. The answer: MasterShield Plus — a newly-developed snap-lock portable event flooring, ideal for all types of turf.
The non-slip, portable event flooring system is designed for high-volume pedestrian traffic. Both easy to install and cost-effective, its overlapping edge protects synthetic turf from foreign contaminants and spilled liquids, and its top ventilation holes provide air movement for the grass if used on natural turf, while the translucent material allows sunlight to reach the natural turf below, for photosynthesis to continue. Grand Valley ordered 14,500 square feet of turf protection, which arrived configured as 4x7-foot pinned lightweight sheets that can be easily handled and stored on pallets.
MasterShield Plus is an ideal application for schools that want to protect their investment. More and more facilities are going outdoors for graduation exercises, said Covermaster Product Specialist Sandy Henderson, and temporary event floorings are “almost like an insurance policy for the field.”
