Sydney, Nova Scotia - There was no scrimping on size when Cape Breton University in Sydney, Nova Scotia constructed the ice rink for their campus arena. The Olympic-sized surface in the Canada Games Complex takes after its European counterparts where IIHF, rather than NHL dimensions, are more the norm.
When it came time for the complex to buy rather than borrow ice rink covers, both the extra surface area and tight timeline put Covermaster® to the test. In just over four weeks — about half the normal time — 20,000 square feet of IceMate™ ice rink floor covering was manufactured and shipped to its East Coast destination in time for the school’s graduation ceremonies in mid-May.
The 5x8-foot ice rink conversion covers were custom cut and fit about a week prior the event, allowing plenty of time for stage and chair setup. The non-porous fiberglass composite arena flooring turns any ice rink into a multi-purpose venue, made easier with simple installation and removal while providing the structural integrity needed to support heavy equipment.
The university is very pleased with the purchase, along with increased opportunities to host any number of special events on campus.
