Evergreen Success at the 2011 Rugby World Cup

Auckland, New Zealand - After a very competitive and entertaining six week tournament schedule, the 2011 Rugby World Cup Final has ultimately been determined. The championship match will take place on Sunday October 23rd at the recently renovated Eden Park Stadium to a sellout crowd of over 60,000. The host country’s All Blacks will face off against Les Bleus of France in a bitter contested rivalry, reminiscent of the 1987 Rugby World Cup Final. Eden Park and its $256 million redevelopment will set the World stage for New Zealand as it becomes the first ground to host two Rugby World Cup finals.

Turf manager Mark Perham of Eden Park has been actively involved with the preparation and running of this event and has been integral to the maintenance and aesthetics of the natural grass field. As the final stage and largest venue of the tournament, Eden Park’s field needed to represent the highest in quality and standard for international Rugby competition. The field needed to be in peak condition prior to rugby play and during the various matches at the stadium, so Mark chose Covermaster’s Evergreen line of products to help maintain and prepare the field for these demands.

Evergreen has been laid down months before the events began and in between all tournament matches at Eden Park. Evergreen has helped nurture and grow the natural turf and has provided the most ideal growing conditions for the grass. While under the cover, the turf was regulated from any harmful conditions, resulting in superior turf strength and durability. The success of Evergreen was shared across the country, with other stadiums in the tournament using Evergreen covers. Wellington Stadium also used the covers, including match breaks in the quarter finals.  Additionally, Hamilton Stadium borrowed sections from Eden Park to help repair large areas of worn out turf. Evergreen covers are both dependable and reliable for all types of applications and have proven their ability to handle the wear and tear of World Cup Rugby Competition.
